Conducting: musicality, mindfulness, movement

This open level movement class is an extension of Eddie’s Animal Mindfulness research, which offers tools and guiding to enable subtle and gross awareness. The main goal of all Eddie’s classes is to observe the body and mind without judgement, to recognise the direct weave between these two aspects, and to train to choose to be present. The information he shares in his courses is inspired from working with companies Ultima Vez and Emanuel Gat Dance, his own movement research, and through years of daily meditation.
The first part of the class will prepare the body and mind through a series of warming exercises. Part of this time will also include warming up and tuning the hearing sense for the rest of the class.
This class remembers music as an impetus for motion. However, we will attempt to know and intuit the music so as to move as if conducting it, rather than being driven or dragged by it. “Conducting the music”... both as a transmission of energy and as a sense of directing the performance. The music we will use is pre-recorded, so in one way, it leads us. But by aligning movement to the music and opening our minds, moment by moment, to receive and truly embody it, we bring something that has passed to the present and give it new life. There, we discover the infinite choice in the space between the notes.
The choreography is from a solo that Eddie created that is both accessible for a less experienced mover, while also providing subtly and complexity for the experienced mover. Eddie is happy to answer any questions. You can email him at: eddieoroyan@gmail.com.
